December through March – Dry Season

  • It’s unlikely to rain, the days are generally sunny with clear skies.
  • it’s extremely cold and may snow at times.
  • Time for migratory birds to arrive
  • Very few local festivals.

July and August – Wet Season

  • The scenery is beautiful and green. Rates are lower because it’s the low season.
  • Migratory birds generally leave by April so only andamic species seen.
  • The wild Yaks begain there migration back to higher elevations.
  • No local festivals during this period.

March through May and September through November+A23 – Peak Season

  • Major festivals happened during this period
  • February, March and April month is best time to see birds in Bhutan
  • Nice weather with generally clear sky with some rainy days.
  • Cheef Abbot and the Monk body shift from their winter residence in Punakha and back to the capital Thimpu in April.
